It's official, after months of hard work and well kept secrets, the internet master, Google, is launching its latest technology gem: The Google Pixel Smart Phone - performance and quality, Google announced its Smartphone, Google Pixel, as a direct competitor to the iconic iPhone 7 that launched at the beginning of the month. Has this smartphone rivalry officially started between these two giants despite the saturation of the mobile market? We can safely say so.
Last Tuesday, Google mentioned the Pixel and Pixel XL, the first phones that have been created from scratch, designed, conceptualized and tested in-house by Google. There were signs before the storm: the 6-year running Nexus programme (experiment), and then Google moved into the Smartphone hardware business (USD 400bn). They took the risk to have conflicting interests with partners like LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics. Google is even making their own accessories like cases or cables, they manage everything in-house such as inventory, carrier relationships building, components sourcing, supply chain deals and distribution.
The Pixel project started in the summer of 2015, approved by the CEO Sundar Pichai, the development itself began last spring / autumn (Europe). Mid-April, all the different division have been reunited (Google Glass, Chromecast and Pixel) and they now work together. In that direction, more and more of the phones' internal systems will be created in-house, as eventually its own custom "silicon" (customized processors that make devices work faster).
Moreover, the Pixel phones will be the first to use the last version of Android, Nougat 7.1, complete with Google tie-ins like camera pro effects, live chat support, automatic cloud service.
